TWO elderly women were attacked and robbed in the street in Sutton-in-ashfield.

A handbag containing keys and cash was taken after the women, aged 86 and 87, were attacked in Woods Hill at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

They were found in the middle of the road with cuts and swelling to the head.

Police say the attacker or attackers are believed to have driven off in a car.

The women were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre with minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Matt Scott said: “Fortunately, the women’s injuries were not serious but they have been left extremely shaken by the incident.

“This is a cowardly attack on two vulnerable women and I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen something to come forward.

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry but all information we receive will help the investigation.

“We are particularly looking to trace the car use in the incident, which may have been blue or dark-coloured.

“We’re carrying out extra patrols in the area, to provide reassurance to the public, while our investigations continue.” ■■Anyone with information about the attack can call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
