No barman is faster!

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS

NOTTINGHAM barman Daniel Warren is the fastest in the world when it comes to making cocktails.

He created ten drinks in just four and a half minutes in a speed challenge at a prestigious competition in Berlin.

However, despite being the fastest bartender at the Diageo Reserve World Class finals, he was narrowly pipped at the post in the race to be the world’s best, finishing a close second to Australia’s Orlanda Marzo.

Daniel, who was working at Last Chance Saloon in Stoney Street until its closure in August, made it to the finals, beating more than 10,000 bar workers from every corner of the globe in a competition that spanned five continents, six months, hundreds of challenges and countless cocktails.

The 56 finalists faced four days of cocktail challenges.

Tasks included Ketel One Vodka’s Better Drinking Challenge in which Daniel crafted a sugar-free cocktail, inspired by his girlfriend’s mother suffering from diabetes.

He said: “A slight pet peeve of mine is overloading a drink with sugar.

“My girlfriend’s mum is type 1 diabetic and that has forced me to look at other options and other ingredients.

“I actually make all my drinks sugarfree now. By using raw ingredients you don’t need to add processed sugars.

“There’s always a way to make it more inclusive if you’re creative and challenge yourself. I’m currently working on a cocktail using distilled milk, which is lactose free – another important issue for people now.

“People are really educated now

about what they can and can’t have, and it’s important for bars to be too.

“Why limit yourself to a small target audience when you can branch out, forcing you to craft more mindful drinks?”

Earlier this year Daniel was named the GB winner after wowing the judges with his ingenious use of ingredients – soil, wild flowers and venison bones.

The coveted contest is considered the best in the industry, in the UK and around the globe.
