I’ve learnt such a lot from all my bosses

200-GAME OSBORN SAYS HAVING SIX MANAGERS HAS HELPED HIM TO IMPROVE

- By PAUL TAYLOR

BEN Osborn says working under six managers during just over four years in the Nottingham Forest first team has been an invaluable learning curve - but hopes to see Aitor Karanka for a long while yet.

Since Gary Brazil handed Osborn his debut in late March 2014, the versatile midfielder has gone on to notch up 200 appearances for the Reds.

Along with three spells under Brazil, Osborn has played under Stuart Pearce, Dougie Freedman, Philippe Montanier and Mark Warburton, prior to the appointment of Karanka in January.

The product of the Nigel Doughty academy says he has picked up knowledge from every one of those managers, who are all very different characters with different approaches to the game.

But Osborn hopes that the tide of change does not sweep into the City Ground again for a while, as he is enjoying playing for the Spaniard.

“I have learnt something different from all of them, without doubt,” said Osborn. “With every one of them, you have taken certain things. You take little bits away from each manager you work with.

“You are always learning, even when some styles are completely different.

“When I contemplate what I want to do after I’ve finished playing and think about the idea of being a coach or a manager, I feel like I have already gained quite a lot of experience from these managers already.

“That could keep me in good stead for when I am older. I have not given it too much thought but I know that I love football and enjoy looking at the way coaches and managers work. It is something I have given a little bit of thought to.

Osborn has built up plenty of experience for a 24-year-old and has been through plenty of drama at the City Ground.

But he feels as though there is finally some stability at the club

now, under Karanka.

“When a new manager takes over, everything changes. Hopefully we can have a bit of stability now and really build,” said Osborn.

“He has built a really, really strong squad and he is not scared to change the team.

“He changes people on performance and form, he does not go for names. He has brought us all together.”

That sense of unity is at the core of Osborn’s confidence as he looks ahead to what the rest of the season might hold.

“It is the closest we have been, as a group,” he said. “Including the subs and everyone, we are all buying into the same thing.

“It is not about who is playing, it is about being together and getting as high up the table as we can.”
