‘I AM GOING TO DIE,’ LYRICO STEEDE TELLS POLICE OFFICERS AT SCENE

THE last words of stabbed teenager Lyrico Steede were played at the trial of five people accused of his murder.

They were recorded on the camera fitted to the uniform of a police officer trying to help the 17-year-old in a darkened street in Bulwell.

A resident called 999 when Lyrico slumped against her front door and asked for help at 7.30pm on February 13.

With Lyrico’s face and injuries pixelated in the footage, the officer can be heard talking to the stricken youth, who weakly says: “I am going to die.”

As other officers arrive and give emergency first aid, the PC tells them: “He says it happened in this area. He says he was stabbed in the back.”

He then twice asks Lyrico: “How many people attacked you?” He answers: “Four.”

The officer asks: “Do you know them at all? Do you know why they did it?” He replies: “No.”

Soon after a female officer is heard saying that Lyrico is “semi-conscious.”

She asks him: “Do we need to let anyone know?” The officer reports: “He shook his head.”

The five accused - all teenagers sat silently as the footage was played on TV screens at Nottingham Crown Court.

Paramedic Matthew Evans described Lyrico as “drowsy,” fitting an oxygen mask to aid breathing. He called a “Code Red back-up” and tried to inject him as part of the emergency treatment. This was not possible “due to the veins being shut down due to low blood pressure”.

Lyrico’s breathing weakened and he went into cardiac arrest. CPR was started and a ventilator was attached. He was taken to the QMC where he had surgery. He died on February 21.

Home Office pathologist Dr Stuart Hamilton said Lyrico died from a brain injury caused by lack of oxygen. This was caused when the heart stopped beating because he was losing so much blood.

The “most significant injury” was a stab wound to a thigh which struck the femoral artery, the main blood supply to the legs. Lyrico had five cuts to the face, including one to the chin “down to the bone”.

Both his lungs were injured but medical teams had managed to repair them.

Prosecutor Peter Joyce QC asked how many knives would have been used. Dr Hamilton said: “There could have been more than one. There could have been two or more of similar dimensions which caused those injuries.”

Mr Joyce asked: “It could have been one? It might have been several?” Dr Hamilton told him: “Yes.”

Those accused include a girl aged 16 and two 17-year-old boys who are too young to be named.

The other defendants are Kasharn Campbell, 19, of no fixed address, and Remmell Campbell-miller, 18, of Sneinton Boulevard.

The trial continues.
