THE Clifton Triangle development will soon expand as the latest company confirmed it was opening a store at the site.

The Sue Ryder charity shop will be a “superstore” giving customers a wide-range of choice of homeware, furniture and clothing at a low price.

Work on developing Clifton Triangle started on July 31, 2017, with the demolition of Fairham House, which sat on the plot of land, to make way for new stores and 24 apartments.

Recent additions to the retail park on Green Lane are a B&M store and Lidl supermarket.

A new butcher’s store was also confirmed to be coming to the development.

Sue Ryder’s sales will go towards supporting the charity’s palliative, neurological and bereavement care.

While an official date has not yet been confirmed, a spokesman said it was expecting to open in Clifton later this autumn.

Shoppers at the retail park had mixed views on the news.

Sasha Marks, a 30-year-old mumof-three, of Clifton said: “It’s a bit disappointing really.

“I was hoping for something a bit more exciting here.

“I am glad it’s involving clothing as that’s what Clifton needs as a store but I was hoping for maybe a H&M, Topshop, New Look, or even a Primark. I feel like they would be much busier stores and bring more people here which is what we need.”

Roy Hill, 62, of Clifton, added: “Obviously it’s nice that it will be for charity but I worry that not many people will come and use it.

“The Lidl and B&M stores are both really busy. I would have like to see a store which makes people go ‘Wow, is that coming to Clifton?’

“I don’t think a charity shop does that.”

Rae Wood, 28, said: “I have a limited budget so there might be few bargains to pick up there.

“But I wouldn’t say I’m excited by it or that I’d use it loads.

“We’ll have to wait and see what it offers.

“It could be a hidden gem if it’s got a lot of good stuff in.”

A Sue Ryder spokesperson said: “We are excited to confirm that Sue Ryder is set to open a new store on Nottingham’s Clifton Triangle later this autumn.

“The shop’s new ‘superstore’ format will pair the choice of a large out-of-town store with the low prices you would expect of a Sue Ryder shop.

“Customers will be able to browse a wide range of both brand new and second-hand furniture, clothing and homewares, whilst also supporting Sue Ryder’s palliative, neurological and bereavement care.

“Ahead of the opening later this autumn we are recruiting a shop manager.

“It’s a varied, rewarding role for an experienced shop manager looking to give back to the community.

“Anyone who is interested is encouraged to find out more and apply at www.sueryder.org/jobs.”

Plans for 24 two-bedroom apartments at the site will be heard by Nottingham City Council’s planning committee on October 17.

The apartments will be available for rent if given the go-ahead from the council.
