STALLED HOUSING SCHEME GETS NEW LEASE OF LIFE – AND A CHANGE OF DESIGN

PROGRESS is being made on a stalled housing development in Beeston which was abandoned for months after the previous developer went into administration.

Construction started on four houses in January last year after Broxtowe Borough Council granted permission to demolish 12 garages in Redwood Crescent – despite great opposition from residents on the street.

The Post reported that developer Precision Homes went into administration leaving the homes abandoned and the site looking like a “war zone”.

Futures Housing Group confirmed it was taking on the development in July this year and said it would knock down two “modular” houses and replace them with more traditional semi-detached houses.

Residents previously said the design of the demolished modular homes did not fit in with the area and wanted new developer Futures Housing Group to listen to their concerns.

Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry said in her most recent newsletter: “Broxtowe Borough Council have used their powers to buy the land between the unfinished houses on Redwood Crescent.

“This will ensure the land will be in public ownership for the community.

“Meanwhile the developer, Futures Housing, has agreed to demolish two of the houses and rebuild them. The other two houses will be completed as originally planned.”

Work on completing the four homes will begin now the ownership of the spare land has been finalised.

A Futures Housing Group spokesman said: “After thoroughly investigating options, we have decided to demolish two of the existing modular buildings and replace them with two traditionally built semidetached homes.”

A Broxtowe Borough Council spokesman added: “Following ongoing discussions with Futures Homes Ltd to ensure the completion of the development at Redwood Crescent, the council has used urgency powers to purchase the open space land in the middle of the housing development site.

“We will continue to work with Futures Homes Ltd to make sure the houses and landscaping of the site are in accordance with the planning permission.”
