A MARRIAGE MADE IN FASHION HEAVEN
IN 2011, Kate and William’s wedding was suitably grand, while in May this year, when Harry married Meghan, it was an A-list affair.
If I’m honest, I thought Princess Eugenie’s nuptials were going to pale in comparison.
Well, I have had my eye well and truly wiped – who knew the youngest daughter of Fergie and Prince Andrew would draw such a fashionable crowd?
I have to start with her dress. Choosing Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos – the designers of the Peter Pilotto label and London Fashion Week favourites
– was entirely unpredicted and utterly brilliant.
The dress itself was designed with a low back, requested by the bride to make sure her childhood scar (she was operated on at age 12 for scoliosis) was visible for the world and the waiting photographers to see. Eugenie called it a tribute to the NHS (for that sentiment alone she is now officially my favourite female royal).
As I said, I didn’t expect Eugenie’s wedding to entrepreneur Jack Brooksbank to outweigh the last royal ceremony, but in fashion terms it definitely did.
In attendance were supermodels Naomi Campbell, Cara Delevingne (the latter attempting to steal the limelight in her Armani Tux and Chanel top hat, although accessorising with a cocktail stick in her mouth was a tad unnecessary) and Kate Moss. If you didn’t like her daytime polka dots then her ensemble for the evening soirée – an ivory silk camisole dress and diamonds – was a crowd-pleasing Mossy classic.
Kate Middleton looked resplendent in a winter berry Alexander Mcqueen dress, while Pippa and Meghan – who we now know is pregnant – stuck to the autumnal colour theme. They didn’t hit any high notes with their outfits.
One of the best dressed was Scottish model Emma Louise Connelly, who wore a red Alessandra Rich dress and matching scarlet headband.
It was a modest shape but the overall effect was spectacular.
There may have been no Beckhams or any sign of Elton John but the appearance of US actress Demi Moore braving the wind in a calf-length burgundy Stella Mccartney dress, and Liv Tyler looking regal in navy blue, filled the void nicely.
The unexpected glamour, along with that spectacular emerald and diamond tiara on loan from the Queen, made this a wedding that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
