Arrest follows death of driver when rock hit windscreen
A MAN has been arrested following an incident in which a grandad died when a large rock went through his car windscreen.
Officers were called just after 11.40am on Tuesday, July 7 to the collision in Perlethorpe cum Budby, near Ollerton.
It is understood that a large rock or piece of concrete had gone through the windscreen of a car driven by 60-year-old grandfather Steven Oscroft, of Shirebrook, who died at the scene. His wife and two grandchildren, who were in the car with him, were unhurt.
Police have confirmed that a 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Adam Cooper, from Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “I would like to thank the public for their response to our appeal into this incident.
“As a result we have been able to make this important step in our investigation.
“However, I would like to remind people that this is just that - a step in the investigation - and to be careful when posting on social media not to make assumptions or post anything which could jeopardise the fairness of that investigation.”
Anyone who has information which could help the investigation should call 101, quoting incident number 275 of July 7, 2020.
