‘Driver left me lying in middle of the road’

A MAN says a motorist drove off leaving him pinned under his motorbike after a crash in Lenton.

Dave Wakelin, 48, from Bilbrough, was on his way to work at 5.50am on Wednesday, September 30.

He was riding his motorcycle on Faraday Road, when he says a car pulled out of the junction at Herons Drive, causing him to slam on his brakes.

The city council worker swerved to avoid the car and had a nasty fall off the bike.

But, as he lay on the ground with his motorbike on top of him, Mr Wakelin claims the car drove off in the opposite direction towards Wollaton Park and quickly left the scene.

He said: “I was trapped under the motorbike in the middle of the road - I couldn’t move.

“Luckily there was a passer-by who I work with, who stopped and helped to lift the bike off me. It was very scary.”

Mr Wakelin suffered a dislocated shoulder, torn tendons in his hand and a lot of bruising.

He is currently recovering but has been left unable to work as a result of his injuries.

His wife Elizabeth told the Post:

CRASH RIDER WAS PINNED UNDER BIKE

“We’ve seen CCTV that shows the car swerved to go around Dave while he was in the road.

“It seems like they knew they had left him in the road. How could they do that?

“If he wasn’t helped, he could have been hit by a truck or something - he wasn’t able to move. He could have died.

“You can’t believe that somebody could do that.”

Neighbouring properties have captured CCTV footage of the incident, but Mr Wakelin wants anyone who may be able to help to get in touch with police.

Inspector Amy English, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Nottinghamshire Police is appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a crash involving a motorbike and a car.

“The incident is believed to have happened in Faraday Road in Lenton at around 5.50am on Wednesday 30 September.

“A man, reported to be the motorcyclist, suffered injuries to his shoulder and hand in the collision and required hospital treatment. It is thought that the car fled the scene immediately after the incident.

“Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or have dashcam footage to get in touch as soon as possible.

“They can contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 216 of 30 September 2020.”
