We all have role to play in beating virus
ONE will have to ask how much the people of Nottinghamshire will have to pay for all those, whether directly or indirectly, who push the infection rate so high.
Students may have contributed to that figure through its fresher week activities and others present. It’s nothing to be proud of having the highest rate in the country.
But what is more worrying is the confidence and credibility of the city council leader David Mellen, especially in recent weeks.
Reckless and whinging university students, having to miss one meal a day, did they think about the consequences of their disregard while out partying?
We have a growing number of people being made redundant as they emerge from the lockdown and furlough, not to mention the collapse of Robin Hood Energy and the mothballing of the Broadmarsh. How long before more families start seeking food from the food banks and cope with universal credit?
Alcohol and coronavirus do not mix well, as inhibitions are reduced or ignored in respect to social distancing. How many were infected as a result of a recent party, where the organiser was fined £10,000? If the students had any thought and consideration for others, they would be aware of the growing number of people who are having to survive through reduced furloughs, redundancy and food banks.
We have to hope and pray the second wave isn’t as brutal as the Spanish flu. I know it’s unpleasant, but we need to challenge those who do not adhere to the guidelines or ignore them, as it only takes one to start what we are experiencing today in the city and county.
Venues, supermarkets and other places of business must implement a no mask or exemption card, no entrance FULL STOP.
Hopefully these protestors and conspiracy theories will cease for the time being and responsibility will return?
