Kaide hopes Blue Peter spot will win him a record deal

‘COOL KID’S SONGS ARE ABOUT XBOX AND SCHOOL

ONE of Nottingham’s youngest rappers hopes he is on the verge of landing a record deal after making an appearance on Blue Peter.

Bulwell boy Kaide Valerga, known as Kaide Cool Kid, aged 10, visited youth groups across the country to change the way young people at risk of knife crime express themselves.

Instead of glorifying violence with songs about gun and knife crime, Kaide puts a new slant on the rap genre by talking about school, his Xbox, and football.

It attracted the attention of BBC’S Blue Peter, who were so impressed with the 10-year-old St Mary’s School pupil that they invited him on the show.

He was also given a week to pen a song about the flagship TV programme, which he performed live in the studio in Manchester.

His proud mum is now hoping it is only a matter of time until a record deal comes through and he can pursue his love for music on a national platform.

Speaking from his Bulwell home, Kaide told the Post: “I just write about what happens around me. I write about football, my Xbox and school.

“It is not really a good thing to rap about, knife crime. I don’t see how people can be proud of stabbing someone. Being on the show was very exciting. I was nervous.

“It took me about a week to do the song. There were five different cameras on me and they were very big. I want to be part of a record label and do more interviews and more live rapping.”

His mum, Leeann Valerga, said: “Kaide made a song especially for Blue Peter and then they asked him to come down and record it live. I was super proud. I don’t know how he does it.

“I am hoping it will lead to more. We have had emails and messages. I can’t see a record deal very far off – hopefully, fingers crossed.”
