Keeper coach search is on
NEW Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton may be set to add another key man to his backroom staff.
The former Newcastle United and Brighton boss was quick to draft in Paul Trollope as his assistant following his appointment as successor to Sabri Lamouchi this week.
And now the 61-year-old Reds boss is looking to bring in a new goalkeeper coach, it is claimed.
Hughton is said to have drawn up a shortlist of two, with Tony Roberts, who works with Wales, and Wigan Athletic’s Nick Colgan in the frame to join him at the City Ground.
Former Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Roberts, 51, combined playing duties with Dagenham & Redbridge with a coaching role at QPR towards the end of his playing career. He joined Arsenal as assistant goalkeeping coach in 2008-09 before a move to Swansea City as first-team goalkeeping coach.
In August 2016 he became goalkeeping coach for the Wales national team, under Chris Coleman, combining the role with his Swansea job.
In June 2018 he left Swansea to join Coleman in China until the former Wales boss was sacked in 2019.
Colgan, meanwhile, is a former Republic of Ireland international whose playing career included spells with Hibernian, Barnsley, Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Grimsby Town.
The 47-year-old started on his coaching career when he worked part-time as a goalkeeping coach with Barnsley’s academy while playing for Huddersfield Town.
At the end of the 2011-12 season, Colgan was appointed to a similar full-time role at Huddersfield before making the step up to the club’s first team goalkeeping coach.
In June 2017, Colgan left and, a month later, was appointed to the coaching staff at Wigan.
