BRAVE GIRL STAYED CALM AND TOLD HER LITTLE SISTER: ‘MUMMY’S BRAIN HAS GONE TO SLEEP, SHE’LL BE AWAKE IN A MINUTE’

A MUM has praised her “hero” daughter, five, for calling for help when she had an epileptic fit.

Lisa Wainwright, 34, said she had a seizure out of the blue when she was at home in Ilkeston with her daughters Esme, five, and Amelia, two, on Saturday, October 3.

Lisa said: “Esme has seen me have a seizure before and we have tried to teach her what to do if it happens.

“I had a fit and as I was coming in and out I could hear what was going on. Amelia was crying but Esme was so calm.

“She told her sister ‘Mummy’s brain has gone to sleep, she’ll be awake in a minute.’ She covered me in a blanket and put my phone in my hand so I could open it with my thumbprint.

“She explained what happened to my husband Ash in a jumbled way and he came straight home to help.

“It does take time to come round – holding a normal conversation would be near impossible for a good few hours. Esme was so brave. I just think she’s a hero.”

Lisa, who was diagnosed with epilepsy in her early twenties, said her seizures are now managed as much as they can be.

She said the trigger for them is tiredness and stress.

Lisa, who is vice-chairwoman for Friends of the Baby Unit at Royal Derby Hospital, added: “After a seizure it feels like I’ve ran a marathon.

“A few hours later I realised exactly what Esme had done for me and I felt so proud of her. She’s a superstar. “It makes me really anxious and I feel guilty that they both had to watch it happen. But Esme is old beyond her years – she is very grown-up.” Lisa’s husband Ash, 32, said: “I knew Lisa hadn’t been very well so when I phoned it was Esme who picked up and I jumped in the car and drove home. “Esme unlocked the door for me and Lisa was out of it. Esme had covered her up and stopped her sister from crying by setting her ipad up to keep her entertained. “She was so calm when it was all a bit manic and overwhelming. “We have since told Esme how proud we are of her.

“It can be quite harrowing when Lisa has a seizure.”
