Police CCTV appeal after biker and pedestrian are injured in collision

- By ANDREW TOPPING

POLICE have released images of nine people they want to speak to following a serious collision that left a 71-year-old man seriously injured.

Two men remain in a serious condition in hospital following the incident, which took place at around 4.30pm on Sunday October 11 in Southchurch Drive, Clifton.

The incident happened when a number of motorbikes travelled past a stationary tram on the road, overtaking it on both sides before colliding with the 71-year-old as he crossed the road.

A motorcyclist then crashed into a bollard.

The pedestrian remains at Queen’s Medical Centre after fracturing his skull and his injuries have been described as life-altering.

The rider, aged 23, has also had surgery and remains in a serious condition.

Trams and buses were stopped in the area and the road was closed as emergency services were sent to the scene.

The CCTV images released by police include eight motorbike riders and a pedestrian who officers are keen to speak to in connection with the incident.

PC Mark Davey, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Two people remain seriously injured in hospital following the collision and we need the community’s help to trace these people pictured as soon as possible.

“Whilst the motorcyclists are wearing helmets I am confident that someone out there knows who these people are and, given the seriousness of the collision, will do the right thing and let us know. It is likely some of them may have hinted to friends or family about an incident they may have been involved in – or it may be that someone has heard information or noticed someone acting differently since Sunday. Whatever information people have, I would urge them to come forward.”

Local neighbourhood and Operation Reacher officers have been supporting the investigation and are involved on an ongoing basis in tackling anti-social riding on the Clifton estate.

Neighbourhood Inspector James Walker said: “We’ve had a number of calls from the local community in relation to a group of people riding off-road motorbikes across the Clifton estate and causing ongoing antisocial behaviour and dangerous riding. “Our officers are committed to tackling this issue, because it is unacceptable for local residents to have to put up with not only the disturbance but the danger it causes. “We are asking the local community to help us put a stop to the problem and report incidents and, where they can, let us know who is responsible.” Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about any of the people pictured is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting incident number 507 of October 11. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

While the motorcyclists are wearing helmets, I am confident someone out there knows who these people are. PC Mark davey
