Support package set to work out at £28 per person

-

THE leader of Nottinghamshire County Council has confirmed the financial settlement for moving into Tier Three will be the same in Nottinghamshire as other areas in the country.

Councillor Kay Cutts says the package being offered by the Government will be “the same as everyone else’s” and has confirmed it is set to be distributed by the district and borough councils.

Based on the support provided to Liverpool when it entered Tier Three restrictions, it would mean around £28 per head is provided to local authorities across the city and county.

This includes £20 per head to support businesses affected by the measures, such as those forced to close or change the way they operate.

Councils will also receive a further £8 per head to implement measures like track and trace, as well as funding schemes like Covid marshals.

Based on Nottinghamshire’s estimated population of around 828,000 people, this equates to about £23.1 million for the county.

This includes £6.6 million for health measures and a further £16.5 million for businesses.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire County Council has confirmed these figures are correct.

If Nottingham city has accepted the same deal, around £9.3 million will be provided in the city. This is based on an estimated population of around 333,000, and broken down it means £6,660,000 for businesses and more than £2.6 million for health measures.

Speaking on the financial deal, Councillor Cutts said there was

“no point in wrangling” over it and confirmed it would be distributed once it arrives with each district and borough council. “The financial settlement is what everyone else is receiving, and that’s what we’ve accepted as well,” she said. “That’s being distributed by the district councils so the figures aren’t there yet for how that’s precisely going to work out.”
