Plans in store to open up new takeaway

A TAKEAWAY left empty for years has been given a new lease of life and can start serving meals again.

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has secured a new lease on the vacant takeaway unit on South Street, Eastwood, on behalf of the freeholder.

With the shop having stood empty for a number of years, the previous owners approached Christie & Co at the start of 2020 to re-let the property.

Before this, the unit was a successful takeaway business with accommodation above and parking to the front and side.

The new lease has been secured by Wasseem Ahktar, who plans to reopen the shop within a few weeks, following a complete refurbishment of the premises.

The new store will offer the local community a variety of takeaway options with a firm focus on deliveries, in order to adjust with the market change in recent months in favour of food delivery rather than collection.

Mr Ahktar said: “I am really pleased to get this deal over the line with the help of Dave at Christie & Co. It’s going to be a busy few weeks getting the unit ready, but we are confident that we can open soon and start to serve the wider community.”

Mr Sandu, the freeholder, added: “I am delighted to secure a new tenant for the takeaway unit and look forward to seeing Wasseem open the takeaway in a matter of weeks. Dave Morris of Christie & Co has been there to support us in getting this deal done and we would like to thank him for his help.”

Dave Morris, director in Christie & Co’s retail team who secured the new lease, said: “Takeaway stores have seen a rise in popularity since the Covid-19 lockdown and months following, with a number of high-profile brands entering partnerships to focus more on deliveries instead of eat-in or collection services.

“This is a great opportunity for Wasseem to open a brand new takeaway and we wish him every success for the future.”
