Scarily good – and that’s just the wig

-

WITH Halloween just around the corner, if you’re looking for something suitably spooky to watch then this new series from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost could be just up your dark alley.

The creators and stars of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz et al have returned to the small screen for this new eight-part series, which is a little bit supernatural, a little bit horror and a big bit comedy.

Nick plays Gus, a mild-mannered telecomms engineer by day, who lives with his dad Richard (superbly portrayed by Malcom Mcdowell), but who also doubles as the self-proclaimed

Truth Seeker

– an amateur paranormal investigator, who broadcasts his ghost-hunting exploits on a

Youtube channel to literally tens (maybe) of loyal viewers. Gus works for Smyle communications company, where his boss is the strangelybewigged Dave (played by Simon Pegg), who teams him up with new colleague Elton John (no, not that one) and that’s when the seriously spooky stuff starts happening. We don’t know whether it’s Elton (a brilliant turn from Samson Kayo) who’s attracting the ghostly goings-on, or if there’s just something in the air, but it seems like every house they’re sent to has some decidedly more sinister issues than dodgy broadband or a broken satellite dish. Before long things turn terrifying and even deadly, and they start to uncover a conspiracy which could actually threaten mankind. Also starring Susan Wokoma, Emma D’arcy, Julian Barrett, Kevin Eldon and Morgana Robinson, this will make a perfect Halloween bingewatch.
