Britt buzzing after his first goal of the season

-

BRITT Assombalonga will come up against former club Nottingham Forest today with a “buzz”, after bagging his first goal of the season for Middlesbrough.

The striker opened his account for the campaign on Tuesday as Coventry City were beaten 2-0.

That made it seven League games unbeaten for Boro, lifting them to eighth in the table.

Assombalonga believes he and the team will go into the clash at the Riverside Stadium with momentum in their favour.

“It’s been a different season for me but the games are coming thick and fast and it’s a quick turnaround for the next one, so I can go into that still having the buzz,” he said.

“It’s been a long time coming for me to get an opportunity like that and, luckily enough, I took it. I’m happy about that.

“We just have to keep going. It’s a tough season and we have a small squad, so our rest and recovery in between games is so important because these Saturday-tuesday-saturday games are not going to stop.

“At this point in the season we’d usually be maybe 15 games in but, of course, we’re only eight in now, so we just have to keep going.”

He added: “We knew Coventry would be a difficult game and we had to grind out the result but now we can go into the weekend game with momentum. It’ll be nice to come up against them (Forest) but we just have to focus and take it game by game.”

Assombalonga left the City Ground for Middlesbrough three years ago and became the club’s leading scorer this millennium with his strike in midweek, taking him to 43 goals in 137 games.
