Only just married!
NEWLYWEDS BEAT THE LOCKDOWN
A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE couple gave themselves just two days to prepare for their wedding so they were able to get married before the national lockdown came into force yesterday.
Victoria and Kyan Frith, 46 and 42, of West Bridgford, met durung Christmas last year at a carol service and, by February 2020, Kyan had already got down on one knee and asked Victoria to marry him.
In front of a packed Pelican Jazz Club, Victoria said “yes” - which was met with wild cheers from a packed audience.
The pair had originally planned to get married in August this year, and their wedding date was then moved to December 2 - the last day of national lockdown.
Both of them sat down on Saturday, October 31 to watch Boris Johnson make his announcement and throw their wedding into further doubt.
“I felt sick,” Victoria said. “We had our hearts in our mouths. We just thought ‘not again’. The plan was to wake up Monday morning and see if we could rearrange first thing.”
But, Victoria received a call from the registry office on Sunday, asking her if they would like to reschedule.
So, on two days’ notice, Victoria and Kyan got married at the West Bridgford registry office in Bridgford Hall at 2pm
on Tuesday, November 3 - with two of their best friends as witnesses and a photographer there as well taking pictures for them.
Victoria continued: “When she said she could fit us in on Tuesday, I didn’t even hesitate - I just said yes. We had literally one full day to try and get everything ready.”
Kyan said: “I was working in the morning right up until 11am and then I was running around like a headless chicken trying to get everything sorted!
“But it was just amazing - all of a sudden, I was marrying the woman of my dreams. I was just on top of the world. I said to Victoria ‘I just can’t believe we are having the opportunity to get married’. It was just wonderful.”
The couple even had to get the bouquet of flowers made up at the last minute at Morrison’s in Gamston.
“People couldn’t have been more helpful and kind,” said Victoria.
“The love, support and encouragement we received in just 24 hours is unbelievable. We are just so grateful to the registry office for all their help too.”
Victoria is originally from Texas in America, while Kyan hails from Cornwall.
They are planning a bigger celebration with friends and family next year.
