A POLICE inspector has made a plea to party-goers to stop putting vulnerable members of the public at risk.

Bodycam footage released by Nottinghamshire Police shows an officer speaking to two men after breaking up a party of more than 20 people in St Ann’s Hill on October 21.

In the video, the officer can be heard saying: “I’ve got family to think about. I have to come to addresses like this and put my own safety at risk, put my children’s safety at risk and I don’t appreciate it.”

The organiser of the party was subsequently fined £200.

It comes as police issued a further £200 fine to a student at a party in North Church Street in the city centre on Tuesday evening after more than 10 people were found in a house.

Inspector Amy English, who works from Radford Road Police Station, said: “Every single officer would run towards danger in order to protect the public.

“However, the fact we are having to put our families at risk as a result of people partying is totally unnecessary

and, quite frankly, unacceptable.

“We do not get to pick and choose the laws we impose. We have to respond to concerns from the public and, at the moment, gatherings are illegal.

“We do not want to spoil people’s fun but we cannot underestimate the seriousness of the situation.”

The bodycam footage, which can be seen at nottinghamshire.live, also shows dozens of people fleeing a party in Talbot Street on October 25. An investigation is under way to find the organiser.

Inspector English added: “We are all making sacrifices through this. Our officers, like everyone else in the country, aren’t seeing some members of their families.

“There are elderly members of our community who haven’t seen their loved ones in months. There are care workers who stayed in care homes to protect some of the most vulnerable people in society.

“We need to work together through this. I’d like to thank the majority of people for their compliance and for their support for the work we do.

“A party not only risks spreading the disease, it also means that we will be under stricter measures for longer.”

On the fines, Inspector English added: “£10,000 is a lot of money and I’d have hoped that after we’d issued the first one the message would have got through.

“Clearly, there are a minority of people who think the rules don’t matter to them and we will continue to tackle those who break the law.”
