Lockdown will be in vain without action

-

ROBERT Jenrick, the Housing and Communities Secretary and MP for Newark, should be asked what he feels about the incident on a Nottingham tram (front page Post - ‘’Shameful’’ 5th November). But more importantly what the Government intend to do about this type of irresponsible behaviour that is setting us back.

From the Covid-19 debates in Parliament I do not recall to-date Boris Johnson, his ministers or indeed any MP calling out those that continue to break the face mask and distancing rules. Not even reckless revellers and partying students are discussed even though they are continuing. Their silence on the matter is deafening.

From the many questions and replies, it is as though Parliament have forgotten that it is the actual close contact between people that can spread the virus and so pushing up the R number.

Boris Johnson recently talked about rapid testing, new drugs and the prospect of a vaccine. But it would also be good if he were to publicly recognise and in turn reprimand in no uncertain terms those that are putting the NHS under immense pressure and jeopardising our recovery.

As it stands, we are all in a kind of unfair collective punishment where the culprits are never named.

Fines are all very well however large, but the damage may have already been done. Lockdown could all be to no avail if a small minority are allowed to continue to flout the rules. Mr Jenrick please do something about it and to do it now.
