HE IS ALSO SENTENCED FOR ASSAULTING EMERGENCY WORKER AND HAVING A BLADE

A YOB breached a restraining order against his ex before going on to take her car without her permission.

Rudy Woolley went to his victim’s address in Ilkeston asking to speak to her, back in July.

Derby Crown Court heard she let him in and when she left the room to go to the toilet, the uninsured and banned driver grabbed her car keys and took her vehicle without consent.

The hearing revealed he also faced a number of different offences from other dates which he was sentenced for.

Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said: “The defendant arrived at the victim’s address, it was the first time she had seen the defendant in two years. He wanted to talk to her and she invited him in. The victim went to the toilet. The defendant took her car keys and drove off in her car.

“The defendant returned three-to four hours later. She pushed him out the door.”

The court heard the victim did receive the vehicle back.

Woolley also pleaded guilty to charges from March 13, for being in possession of a bladed article and causing criminal damage in Eastwood.

Another set of offences took place on April 5, which included racially-aggravated harassment on a different victim and an assault an emergency worker.

Adrian Reynolds, mitigating, told the court Woolley’s mother had recently been diagnosed with motor-neurone disease, had been ill for some time and he had been caring for her.

He said the victim in the racially-aggravated harassment didn’t make a statement. He described the assault against the emergency worker as despicable. He also said the defendant didn’t spit in the officer’s face.

He said Woolley had been subject to a curfew, had also spent a number of days in custody and gave an update concerning the situation in prison due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Judge Jonathan Bennett, who presided over the case, said: “You have pleaded guilty to a number of offences at the first opportunity in this court.

“I take into account about your mother being diagnosed with motor-neurone disease and you care for her. Perhaps in the last three years you haven’t always been there for her to assist her when she needed it.

“On July 12, you went to a woman’s address in the early hours of the morning. It must have been extremely frightening to get you turning up in this way in breach of that (restraining) order.

“It is aggravated by the fact you took her car (without consent). I impose a prison sentence.”

Woolley, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker and racially-aggravated harassment.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order, taking a vehicle without owner consent, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was jailed for 15 months and was banned from driving for a total of 38 weeks.
