Care home to close down after proposed sale falls through

A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE care home is set to close after its owners went into administration.

Seely Hirst House, in Mapperley Road, cares for elderly and disabled people with conditions including dementia and learning disabilities.

The Mapperley home, which has been in administration since March, was rated as ‘requires improvement’ during its last CQC inspection in 2019. At the time, 27 people lived at the home.

The report said that the provider had “failed to ensure equipment used to help people move had been inspected” and “not all staff who administered medicines had had their competency checked”.

But the report highlighted that residents “liked their home” and “felt cared for by staff”.

This came after a 2018 inspection which found residents “were at risk of poor fluid intake or dehydration” and four breaches of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 were identified.

Councillor Adele Williams, Portfolio Holder for Adults at Nottingham City Council, said: “Seely Hirst House is a privately-run care home which has been in administration since March of this year. Administrators wanted to sell the business as a going concern and had identified a buyer, who needed to secure approval from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) before completing the sale.

“The CQC turned down this request and then upheld a subsequent appeal. The administrators have now informed us that the proposed sale has fallen through and they will be closing the home. We have moved quickly to support those city residents affected and will, in consultation with their families, find alternative accommodation for all of them.”

A CQC spokesperson said: “We issued a notice of proposal to refuse the application from the provider to register as an individual. She did not submit any representations against the proposal.”

Seely Hirst House did not wish to comment.
