Make free parking a Christmas gift Easy to see what’s driving the spread

-

SEEING the emptiness of Victoria Centre in The Nottingham Post on Tuesday, really hit home.

As the article mentioned, usually it would be bustling with shoppers at this time of year. Even after lockdown 2 for December the challenges to bring shoppers to the Victoria centre and the city as a whole will be immense.

As we saw before the second lockdown the city was struggling and very quiet. The internet and retail parks faring much better in attracting customers, with convenience and price being two major factors.

I’d like to appeal to the city council and suggest they do something now, to tempt shoppers back for December.

It’s one single simple thing that will bring more people back fast. Make Nottingham a free parking city for the whole of December.

All streets and council owned parking facilities should be free. It will help spread the load of shoppers, remove the log jam that will appear at outlying retail parks and bring our city traders a much needed boost and, help its citizens get Christmas 2020 back.

Yes there will be lost revenue but that will be a small price to pay for the upsides.

A big problem needs a big response. ‘Just do it’ to quote a famous sports brand.

AN “astonishing and terrifying” rise in Covid cases in a place called Hull.

It then follows that some chaps turn up to do some work on a garden and spend the night at said house along with the home owners.

The area code on the van is that of, err Hull. And people wonder how the virus continues to spread, self explanatory?
