Drivers who were in the area on Wednesday evening are being encouraged to get in touch.

Armed police were deployed at around 10.30pm to secure the area in Stapleford after it was reported a man had been shot.

A cordon was placed near Hickings Lane Recreation Ground in Wesley Place, and officers remained in the area to provide community reassurance.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre after being treated to a single gunshot wound to his arm.

Detective Inspector Kim Binns is leading the investigation. She said: “We are encouraging anyone in the area to come forward to help with our investigation.

“We are especially keen to speak to drivers who have dash-cam footage from the Pasture Road, Hickings Road and roads around the Hickings Lane Recreation Ground from around 6.30pm to the time of the incident.

“We have made good progress in our investigation, but are still working hard to fully understand the circumstances around this serious incident.

“We believe that the incident took place in Hickings Lane Park around 10.30pm and we are now calling for the public to help us piece together what happened.

“I want to reassure the public that we are doing everything in our power to find those responsible with over 25 investigators committed to the investigation.”

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Simon Riley said: “I understand the level of concern incidents of this nature cause and patrols will be increased in the area over the weekend in order to provide reassurance to the public.

“Firearms offences are totally unacceptable and have no place in our community.

“We are committed to protecting the safety of our communities and will be doing everything we can to make sure the area is secured and safe for the public.

“We will aim to keep disruption to a minimum while we detectives carry out their investigation.”
