Brennan shining for Imps as Reds boss keeps tabs

-

BOSS Chris Hughton says he is monitoring the progress of on-loan Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson.

But he would not be drawn on whether he may look into the prospect of recalling the 19-year-old in January.

Johnson has been in fine form for League One Lincoln City, scoring two goals in nine appearances – including a brilliant solo effort in the Imps’ 6-2 FA Cup victory over Forest Green Rovers.

He was also handed his first senior international cap last week, when he came off the bench during Wales’ goalless draw with the USA.

“I’m keeping tabs on how he’s doing and I’ve watched some footage of him playing,” Hughton told the Nottingham Post.

“He’s a talented player, that’s for sure.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more of him.

“We’re very much keeping tabs on him.

“It’s always really good to see somebody who’s come through the system going out on loan and performing.

“You send players out on loan to go play games, and you really hope they do well.

“He is doing well. “It’s brilliant for him, at such a young age, to get his first cap for Wales.

“We’re looking forward to seeing more of him.”

The decision to send Johnson

on loan was made before Hughton took charge at the City Ground as Sabri Lamouchi’s replacement.

And he is aware there is a case to be made for allowing the teenager to continue getting regular game time.

Asked whether he would consider bringing him back early from the season-long deal, Hughton said: “I don’t know.

“I don’t know what the agreement is.

“He’s playing games there. Lincoln have played him and we’re grateful for that.

“There’s a lot of cases where players go out on loan and they end up not playing.

“All of these things will be in the mix and we’ll see where we are come January.”
