Permit objections overruled by council

-

I WAS very interested to read in last week’s Opinion column that a mere eight people out of over 300 houses on roads close to Trinity School at Aspley actually requested the residents’ parking permit system.

It is complete madness that the scheme has gone ahead but this seems to be fairly normal policy with Nottingham City Council. Is the council trying to win an award for the most incompetent/stupid/ wasteful local authority in the country? I doubt there will be much competition from other councils.

A close friend who lives on Creamery Close off Beechdale Road, which is one of the 11 roads affected, is absolutely livid with the city council. She wrote to formally object as there is never any serious problems on her road and does not want money wasted on a permit system that will be ruthlessly enforced 52 weeks a year including Christmas Day. She is fairly sure no-one on her road actually requested permits as there is never normally any shortage of parking places.

The council seem completely unconcerned about whether or not there actually is a problem that needs fixing and overruled her objections without giving any proper explanation.

This seems to one of so many similar examples in Nottingham recently.

My parents regularly used the expression “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it”. Please will the city council take note and act on this useful piece of wisdom
