A POLICE officer has recalled the moment a man spat in his face while he was arresting him.

PC Ryan Shiel was confronted by Michael Green in Thorneywood Rise, Thorneywood, at 7.10pm on October 12.

He was threatening to fight the officers who attended a report of a domestic incident at a property on the street.

PC Shiel said: “Green was very loud and confrontational when we arrived.

“He was threatening to fight and refusing to leave the premises, so we asked for further assistance to try and ease the situation.”

More officers arrived and managed to coax Green,

43, out of the house.

Once outside, Green was placed in handcuffs and PC Shiel cautioned him, and attempted to place him into the van.

PC Shiel continued: “Green refused to enter the van and began shouting and swearing. All of a sudden he spat, and it landed on my left cheek. I was left feeling completely violated by the attack, which was completely uncalled for.

“With the assistance of other officers Green was placed into the van and taken into custody.

“I found his actions absolutely disgusting and I was quite frankly shocked at his behaviour. I do not come to work to be assaulted.

“The incident left me feeling very worried because I do not know Green, I don’t know if he has any health conditions or coronavirus and when we are in the middle of a pandemic, I’ve been left feeling very uneasy.” Green, of Thorneywood Rise, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court last week charged with common assault of an emergency worker. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in prison.

PC Shiel added: “I could have fallen ill due to his callous actions and that would have had an impact on those closest to me. “I am glad that he will now face the consequences of his actions.” PC Rebeckah Jackson, of Nottinghamshire Police, who led the investigation, said: “This was an appalling experience for our colleague and I am pleased to see that Green has been punished for his actions, which left an officer feeling very apprehensive.

“No one deserves to be assaulted when they are carrying out their duty and I sincerely hope Green learns from this.”
