Be careful where you take your exercise Ernie’s lights have brightened our lives

-

I HAVE just heard from someone that in order to get some outdoor exercise they took an elderly and infirm person up to the top of the former coal mine slag heap that is the big mound at the back of Phoenix Park tram terminus car park, formerly the Babington Colliery.

I have pointed out to this person that slag heaps are inherently unstable – witness the Aberfan disaster in South Wales - and that is why the one at Phoenix Park is fenced off.

I also pointed out that a young man on a motorbike was killed up there some years ago when he came off.

Albeit these people very recently had been walking up there, and not using bikes.

So getting outdoor exercise is fine and to be recommended, but for goodness sake just use the normal bridle paths etc and don’t go putting yourself, and others, in harm’s way!

WHAT a lovely

Brian George Nottingham heartwarming story (“Ernie lights up Christmas in memory of his partner”, Nottingham Post, November 27).

Ernie’s lights have always been a great attraction. To adults and children.

His collections for charity have been amazing, every year!

He’s suffered sadness, loss and ill health himself, but still continued lighting up Coppice Road, Arnold.

Anyone who puts decorations up for the joy of the passer-by is so thoughtful.

This year we all need cheering up a little bit more. (We all know why).

Thanks to Ernie his festive lights have certainly done the trick with a flick of a switch.

A Merry Christmas to everyone, with lots of love and cheer. And may I wish you all the best for the coming year.
