Hospitals bring back charges for car parking

-

PARKING charges for patients and visitors have been reintroduced at Nottingham hospitals.

Nottingham University Hospitals’ Trust, which runs City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre, made the changes starting today.

Parking has been free at the two hospitals since the start of the pandemic but rising car park costs means the trust has made the decision to reintroduce the charges.

Warning notices will be left on vehicles that are parked in such a way as to be likely to receive a ticket.

No vehicle or driver details will be collected during this “reintroduction” phase of issuing warning notices, according to the trust.

Andrew Chatten, director of estates and facilities, said: “Since the start of the pandemic our car parking barriers have been up, and our car parks have been open to the public, free of charge, to allow patients to easily access our hospitals.

“Parking remains free for those patients with long-term conditions who need regular, repeat visits to hospital such as for chemotherapy and dialysis.

“Running and maintaining our car parks is expensive and these costs are rising year on year.

“All of the money we make from parking charges goes back into funding maintenance, upkeep, security, improvements to our roads and car parks and supporting provision of the popular Medilink bus service, which connects the park and ride facilities with our two hospitals.”

■ Patient and parking visitor charges as of today: Up to 30 minutes – FREE; up to one hour – £2; up to two hours – £4; up to four hours – £5.50; up to eight hours – £6.50; up to 24 hours – £8; weekly – £20; monthly – £30.
