Police search fails to find man spotted entering river
A THREE-DAY search was carried out by Nottinghamshire Police who were “fairly confident” a man had gone into the River Trent.
Scores of police cars, ambulances and fire engines lined Trent Bridge on Friday, after reports that a man was seen in the water.
Fire crews from Highfields and Newark were on the water with the Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) from around 5.15pm but no one was recovered.
Nottinghamshire Police used their drone team to search the river. The drones have thermal imaging which will show where people are located.
The search continued on Saturday, with no-one found, and the Nottinghamshire Search and Rescue unit then moved on to Gunthorpe River Car Park yesterday.
A search of the water there continued as the River Trent flows north and there was a chance the man could have ended up there.
But by yesterday evening, no-one had been found and police are appealing for any drivers travelling along the A60 London Road at around 5.15pm on Friday to check their dashcam footage.
They believe this could help with the investigation.
Nottinghamshire Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Gerard Milano told the Post: “We are fairly confident someone has gone into the river.
“We have got CCTV of someone going in unaided and there is no-one else involved. It is a deliberate attempt. We have seen witnesses saying they saw someone going upstream.
“We don’t know who it is. We are looking at whether they arrived here by public transport and tracking them back. No-one has reported anyone missing. We have also sent a note to other police forces. We will keep looking and have had the drone up. We have done everything to locate the person.”
Anyone with information can call Police on 101, quoting incident number 458 of January 8.
