Warning over dangers of cannabis farms
POLICE have arrested three men and warned the public of the dangers surrounding drug cultivation after seizing 700 cannabis plants from a Nottinghamshire home.
The drugs raid took place at a property in Kirkby-in-ashfield, with Nottinghamshire Police posting on Facebook about arresting the three men “following a game of hide and seek”.
Officers in Ashfield then went on to explain some of the criminality surrounding drug production, including the exploitation of children, vulnerable adults and links to modern-day slavery.
In the post, officers suggested that they see a “lot of negativity” towards cannabis crops before explaining some of the dangers.
A spokesperson for the Ashfield Police page said: “The Reacher team were drafted in to assist with the discovery of large cannabis grow in Kirkby-in-ashfield.
“Three males were arrested at scene following a game of hide and seek. Approximately 700 plants have been recovered from the address.
“We often see a lot of negativity towards the discovery of cannabis grows, but these are extremely dangerous and the circumstances surrounding them tend to lead to other offences such as modern-day slavery and often fund organised criminality.
“Similar to county lines offending, children and young people can be targeted due to debts that they or their family owe.
“This is also similar with adults who suffer with mental health difficulties or who are ‘easily led’.
“Victims can be cuckooed, where other people will take over their house and grow cannabis in one room.”
