Rapid results promise from new facility for area of city

-

A NEW coronavirus testing centre has opened in Nottingham meaning people can get a free test with rapid results.

People who work or live in Forest Fields and Hyson Green and do not have symptoms are now being encouraged to visit Djanogly Community Leisure Centre to get a Covid-19 test once a week.

The City Council Asymptomatic Testing Centre, based in Gregory Boulevard, opened yesterday and will remain open until March.

The centre will use Lateral Flow Testing (LFT), with which results are typically obtained within 30 minutes.

According to Public Health England data, Hyson Green recorded 38 cases in the seven days to January 14 with a rolling rate of 413 per 100,00 people.

Forest Fields has a higher rate of 631.5 per 100,000 people and 44 positive tests were confirmed in the same period.

The city council said: “The aim of the Asymptomatic Testing Centre is to help identify and isolate individuals who have Covid-19 but do not have symptoms and may inadvertently be spreading the virus - around 1 in 3 people with Covid-19 don’t have any symptoms.

“Positive or negative test results can be given within the hour and support will be offered to those people who test positive.

“Residents are advised not to attend if they are showing symptoms of Covid-19. Under 12s must come with an adult.”
