THE leader of Broxtowe Borough Council says residents are raising “serious concerns” abouyt the lack of a vaccination centre in the area.

All other boroughs and districts across the county now have a fully operational Covid-19 vaccination centre but Broxtowe is still without one.

Councillor Milan Radulovic has sent a letter to director of public health for Nottinghamshire, Jonathan Gribbin, calling for the same opportunities.

The letter reads: “Broxtowe Borough is the only district area within Nottinghamshire without a vaccination centre.

“Serious concerns are being expressed to me on a daily basis by residents.

“Not only in relation to the lack of a local vaccination centre but also from residents that have yet to receive letters inviting them for a vaccination appointment.

“Many think that as a result, residents of Broxtowe will not receive the same opportunity as other communities in Nottinghamshire.

“I trust that you understand our concerns and that you can provide appropriate reassurance to our residents.”

There are currently 11 confirmed vaccination centres across the county.

The latest opened at Newark Showground on Saturday.

In a change of strategy from the NHS, all over-80s are now being encouraged to book an appointment via an online link.

It comes after people were told to wait for a letter instructing them to visit a centre to receive the Pfizer or Astrazeneca jabs.

Letters will soon be sent out to those over 75 this week and those over 70 as early as Monday.

The current vaccination centres are broken up into categories.

The NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG is now delivering the vaccine at three hospital hubs: Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham City Hospital and King’s Mill Hospital.

Local vaccination centres are also now open in Ashfield Health Village, Cripps Health Centre, Gamston Community Centre, King’s Meadow Campus, Richard Herrod Leisure Centre, Newark Showground, Retford Hospital and Larwood Surgery in Worksop.
