‘Terrifying’ home raid by robbers

A MAN was rushed to hospital after being assaulted by masked intruders who stole cash from his bungalow.

The 65-year-old victim was subject to a terrifying ordeal when a man and two women stole from his home in Garfield Road, Radford on Friday night.

The incident was reported to Nottingham­shire Police at around 10.35pm after a man and two women were believed to have knocked loudly on the man’s door.

When he opened it, a man carrying what is thought to be a knife threatened him and held it to his throat.

A woman who lives at the address was then reported to have been pushed up against a wall by a woman while a second woman searched the bungalow.

Police said the victim was repeatedly punched in the face and sustained cuts to his hands during an altercatio­n with the intruder.

Officers rushed to the scene and efforts were made to locate the suspects but no-one has been arrested at this stage.

The male intruder is described as black, 5ft 9ins tall and in his 50s. He is thought to have been wearing a black surgical mask and is described as having a short beard.

A woman, described as 5ft 9ins to 6ft tall, black, having short black hair and in her 20s, is believed to be linked to the investigat­ion. Another women also linked to the report is thought to be around 5ft tall, black, of a slim build and around 20 years old. She is also described as having short black hair.

The 65-year-old man was taken to hospital and treated for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatenin­g or life-altering.

Detectives at Nottingham­shire Police have now launched an investigat­ion into this incident.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottingham­shire Police, said: “This incident would have undoubtedl­y been terrifying for the victims and we are working very hard to find who did this.

“To target a person in this way is shocking and understand­ably concerning for the local community but we are doing everything we can to identify and apprehend suspects.

“I would ask that anyone who may have seen or heard something suspicious in the area at the time, witnessed the incident or have any CCTV in the area to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Any informatio­n you have, no matter how insignific­ant you think it may be, could help us find those responsibl­e.

“We will be conducting enquiries in the area today and there will be an increased police presence in the area while we work to establish the circumstan­ces of this report.”
