Machete man chase

A CYCLIST was reportedly chased and attacked by a man with a machete in a Nottingham­shire town.

The incident happened in Wood Street in Eastwood at around 6pm on Thursday.

Police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident at around 4am on Friday morning. He remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, of Nottingham­shire Police, said: “This must have been a terrifying experience for the cyclist.”

She added: “We are pleased we have detained one man in the early hours this morning, but we are still appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident in Wood Street in Eastwood at around 6pm on Thursday.

“Our enquiries are ongoing into this incident which we currently believe to an isolated incident that poses no threat to the wider public.

“We understand incidents of this nature cause a lot of concern and there will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassuranc­e and to address any concerns the public have.

“We’re committed to tackling knife crime in Nottingham­shire, both through education and enforcemen­t, and we are absolutely committed to driving down knife crime and serious violence wherever it presents.”
