Ardley is still in the hunt for recruits

-

NOTTS County boss Neal Ardley felt his side were good value for their point against National League leaders Torquay United and says the Magpies are still pursuing targets in the transfer market.

“I think overall a draw was a fair result,” said Ardley after the goalless encounter at Meadow Lane.

“I think they had one or two chances that flashed across the box or that we had to get blocks in. I think Ruben’s (Rodrigues) and Kyle’s (Wootton) chances were great chances, Reevesy (Jake Reeves) had one too.

“It was a tough game. They stopped us, they had great energy, they stopped us having rhythm in our game. We played two up (front) because we wanted to stretch the game. We didn’t get enough joy from that as the game went on.

“When you have two good teams that respect what each other do, they will cancel each other out. If they’re the best team in the league then we are not a million miles behind.”

With two weeks of the transfer window still left, Ardley confirmed the club are still pursuing a left-back and cover at centre-back after a deal for the former fell through this week.

“We are trying to get more. We tried to get a left-back in, we had it over the line but it fell through at the last minute,” Ardley added.

“At the moment it looks like we’ve had to move on, through no fault of ours, it was signed, sealed and delivered. We’ve had to move on, that happens.

“We’re looking at that and keeping an eye on the centre-back position. Ben (Turner) is out for another game and with Connell (Rawlinson) carrying a knee injury, we’re keeping an eye on that and make sure we have players ready.”
