From pub to Pudding Pantry

-

SWEET-TOOTHED shoppers say they can’t wait for Beeston’s newest cafe to open.

The owners of The Pudding Pantry are opening their third branch at the former Durham Ox pub and hope to be up and running by March.

The cafe, in High Road, is expected to create “at least” 15 jobs.

University of Nottingham student Donny Lumley, 21, who is originally from London, said: “I feel like it will be really popular with young families and teenagers, and probably students as well. Places like that always seem to attract a younger crowd.”

Medicine student Mim Leather, 20, said: “Sweet stuff never really seems to have an age. Especially with kids coming back from school, it will draw them in.

“The Durham Ox has been empty since we’ve been here so it will be good to see something in there.”

With two sites already, in the city centre and Sherwood, the owners hope the Beeston cafe will be open for table service as soon as Covid restrictions allow.

Anthony Quinn, 33, who owns the business with wife Emma, 32, said they picked Beeston because it is a “bustling” town with a new cinema set to open soon.

As well as puddings, the cafe specialises in afternoon tea and cakes, brunch and vegan options.

Explaining the couple hoped to “add something quite significant” in the area, Mr Quinn said: “We anticipate it will create at least 15 jobs.

“The same head chef will be controlling the three sites and designing the menus with the head chefs of each site. Across the three sites you will be able to get the same experience.”

An application has been made to Broxtowe Borough Council to add the company’s signage to the site.

Since having to close due to lockdown and tier restrictions, the business has adapted by serving takeaways, afternoon tea boxes and pancake kits.
