TEN new job placements have been created for unemployed young people in Nottingham.

Nottingham City Homes said it has secured up to £68,000 in Government funding to create the posts for 16-24-year-olds.

The money comes from the Kickstart Scheme, which provides funding to create new job placements for young people on Universal Credit, who are at risk of long term unemployment.

As part of the scheme, the Government pays 100 percent of the national minimum wage for the six-month work placement.

To apply for a role, you need to be aged 16-24, living in Nottingham and on Universal Credit. Applicants will need to speak to their Job Centre Plus work coach to express an interest.

The roles and opportunities on offer for young people at NCH includes job placements across the company.

Candidates will be provided with in-work support and training throughout the process and every young person will be assigned a mentor.

Nick Murphy, chief executive at Nottingham City Homes, said: “As a major local employer, Nottingham City Homes is committed to helping people into work.

“Supporting young people at this difficult time is vital and we must help them to get the training they need to have successful careers.

“It is so important for companies to train young people as they are our future workforce. We are proud to be able support young people into work.”

The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Therese Coffey, said in a joint statement: “We know people are leaving education into an extremely difficult jobs market, we know that young people are more likely to have been furloughed, so we are stepping in to provide more help.”

It is anticipated that posts will be live to apply for in February.
