ENGLAND all-rounder Lewis Gregory will captain the Trent Rockets men’s side.

The final retained men’s lists for The Hundred were named yesterday, with 57 players signing up for the 100-ball competition, which will begin this summer after its 2020 launch was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gregory will lead a Rockets side featuring Australian duo Nathan Coulter-nile and D’arcy Short, who have both been retained, while Nottinghamshire’s Luke Wood is also in the line-up, along with Worcestershire wicket-keeper Ben Cox and Sussex’s Luke Wright.

Dawid Malan, Rashid Khan and England Test skipper Joe Root are already on board for the Rockets.

The full Rockets line-up will be revealed when the final two slots are filled in the men’s draft on February 23.

“It’s a real privilege to be leading this Trent Rockets side,” said Gregory.

“The squad is looking really

strong, with both the world IT20 number one bowler and batter in Rashid Kahn and Dawid Malan signed up.

“It is really exciting to learn from and play alongside players of that quality. With only two picks left at The Hundred men’s draft, we’re nearly a full team and I can’t wait to see the final squad.”

Fans of the Lightning will be pleased to see Nancy Harman and

Lucy Higham staying local, with both signing up to the Trent Rockets women’s team. They join a side featuring Scotland international Kathryn Bryce, as well as England’s Katherine Brunt and Nat Sciver.

“I’m really excited to keep it local and I’ll be wearing the Trent Rockets shirt with pride,” said Higham.

“It is such an honour to play with and learn from some of the best in the world.

“The Hundred is going to do so much for women’s cricket and sport generally – to be a part of something like that feels massive. I can’t wait for the summer.”

While the men’s retention window – the period during which teams could retain players from their 2020 squads – has now closed, the women’s squads will continue to be revealed until June.

Trent Rockets are one of eight teams taking part in The Hundred.

It will also feature seven other citybased teams from Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Southampton and two in London and will be screened live by Sky and the BBC.
