Lake bursts its banks - with snow to follow

-

SOME footpaths are out of use at Holme Pierrepont after the boating lake flooded its banks.

It comes after a number of sections of the River Trent burst its banks following recent downpours.

Last week, a garage near Lowdham was hit for the fourth time in a month by flooding, with the director saying it was ‘crippling’ his business.

More rain and snow is forecast in the coming days.

Seven flood warnings are currently in place across the wider area - which means flooding is possible in these areas and residents should be prepared:

■Fossdyke Canal and River Till

■Lower Derwent in Derbyshire

■Lower River Soar in Leicestershire

■River Idle in Nottinghamshire

■River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough

■River Trent in Nottinghamshire

■River Witham in North Kesteven

Nottinghamshire is due to be hit with freezing overnight temperatures this weekend as a ‘mini Beast from the East’ is predicted to bring snow across the country.

Three days of yellow weather warnings for snow and ice were currently in place for the county, from today until Monday.

Met Office forecasters predict overnight temperatures could fall as low as 0C (32F) by Sunday evening, but it will feel like -6C (21F) at some points.

On the outlook for the East Midlands over the weekend, a Met Office spokesperson said: “Cloudy Saturday with patchy rain. Rain turning wintry overnight into Sunday as it becomes increasingly cold and breezy. Breezy Monday with sunny spells and snow showers, mainly in the north.”

According to the forecast, snow could start falling in Notts from 9pm on Saturday and is forecast to fall throughout early Sunday morning.

It could return by 9pm on Sunday evening with sporadic snow showers currently forecast for Monday.

Early predictions suggest more snow could fall in Nottinghamshire on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
