Bluebirds aiming to double up

-

MICK Mccarthy is looking to build on his first victory in charge of Cardiff City when they head to South Yorkshire to face Rotherham United tonight.

The Bluebirds had a 2-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday, Mccarthy’s first since being appointed on January 22.

His first two matches in charge after replacing Neil Harris ended in draws.

“It will be a really tough game,” he told the club website.

“We know what to expect going up there. I fully expect it to be a really hard one, but we’ll be ready for it.”

Rotherham won their last two games, defeating Preston North End and Derby County, and in doing so have pulled themselves out the relegation zone.

“They’ve got momentum, we’re going up to their place and it’s always a tough game at Rotherham,” Mccarthy added.

“But we’re unbeaten in three games and just won our first game in a long time, so I’m sure we can go up there with a bit of momentum as well.

“Now we’ve got to do that every week. I think that’s the level you’ve got to be at to win games in this league.

“I think when you’ve won away from home, you’re allowed to enjoy it and have a smile on your face, but that all changed on Sunday because we were back out preparing for Rotherham.”

The Championship’s bottom two square off tonight at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday host Wycombe Wanderers.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side are nine points adrift of Wednesday and are winless in their last four League games.

The Owls, who are three points from safety, remain under the guidance of interim manager Neil Thompson after the dismissal of Tony Pulis in December.
