Moment I found my mum dead on kitchen floor

FAMILY AND FRIENDS RAISING MONEY FOR PROPER FUNERAL

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman has spoken of the moment she found her mother dead on the floor.

Grandmother Janene Terry, 42, was found in her Eastwood home on February 5.

Daughter Keeley Terry had gone to buy food but had not heard from her mum all morning.

She walked into the house to see her mum lying on the kitchen floor.

Paramedics and the air ambulance were called but Keeley said that it was too late. She had died, leaving three daughters and a grandchild.

Paying tribute to her mum, Keeley, who is also a mum, said: “She was like a best friend to me, someone I could talk to about things.

“She was very close to her mum and dad and I want to have her cremated and her ashes sprinkled with them at Eastwood cemetery.

“I just want to give her the funeral she deserves.

“Her school friends in a Facebook group have set up a fundraising page for her which is just amazing of them.

“I am still in shock about it all. I found her in the kitchen in the fetal position.

“She had COPD and emphysema so that affected her breathing a lot and she struggled with it.

“She was in the process of moving to a ground-floor apartment to help this.”

Janene was adopted from a young age and just five months ago she lost her adoptive mum, Keeley said.

Childhood friend Michelle Taylor set up the fundraising page to help give Janene a proper send-off.

Michelle, 42-, from Heanor, went to Eastwood Comprehensive school with Janene.

She said they often went on family holidays together but lost touch with each other in later years.

She said: “We were good school friends. She was a lovely sweet girl.

“I was really shocked when I heard the news on Friday.

“I did not want the family to not be able to give her a funeral so I set up the page.

“I just want to help how I can really. “She was really well-known at school and a really sweet local girl.

“She was still so young, too. So it’s a big shock to people.”

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 11.19am on February 5 to a private address in Eastwood.

“We sent two paramedics in cars and a crewed ambulance. The air ambulance was also in attendance.”

A post-mortem examination is being carried out to determine the cause of Janene’s death.

Any additional money given to the fundraising page will be used to help vulnerable people or people with addictions to access help and provide support for young carers, Michelle said.
