MUM’S THE WORD FOR LATEST SERIES OF TRACY BEAKER

-

WHEN she found out she’d got the part in CBBC’S new Tracy Beaker series, actress Emma Maggie Davies said everyone in her house went wild.

“It was so cool,” she grins. “When we got the news, my mum, my dad, my brother and even my dog were screaming, and I was screaming and dancing. The neighbours must have been very confused!”

Emma is starring as Jess, daughter of Tracy in My Mum Tracy Beaker which starts this week.

So what is her character like?

“Jess is very good in school, she’s very clever and she’s very practically minded,” says Emma.

“And she loves her mum more than anything in the world.

“Their relationship is almost more like best friends because it’s just been the two of them since Jess can remember.”

When Emma learned she’d got the part, she says she was shocked because so many ‘amazing’ girls were going for it.

But she adds: “It was so exciting because it’s my first TV role. I had to learn a London accent – and usually I’m broad Yorkshire.

“I lived and breathed it, repeating words and driving my family up the wall because I was watching one video over and over again.”

Emma confesses she was a little starstruck working with the other actors, but she says meeting them and acting with them was “such a cool experience, it was just amazing. They were all so lovely”.

Seeing everyone all grown up is funny, says Emma, who goes on: “I think viewers will enjoy seeing Tracy as a mum and she’s still as feisty as ever.”

■ My Mum Tracy Beaker starts on Friday at 5pm on CBBC and you can see the rest of the series on BBC iplayer from the same day.
