POLICE have launched an investigation after a woman’s body was found on a footpath next to the River Trent.

A section of Stoke Lane in Stoke Bardolph was cordoned off at around 7.45am yesterday.

The force say the woman’s body was found shortly before 7.30am her death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

While no formal identification has taken place, police believe they know who the woman is and her family has been made aware while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our thoughts are with this woman’s family and friends at this sad time.

“We are working hard to understand the full circumstances and officers remain in the area while they carry out their enquiries.

“We are keeping an open mind as we continue to progress with our investigation and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 92 of 19 February 2021.

Residents who live nearby told the Post they saw a number of police cars rush to the scene near the Ferry Boat pub early yesterday morning.

Alison Cawser, who lives just metres away from the cordon, said: “I saw lots of police cars come down around about 7.15am. There were lots of flashing lights.

“I went to walk the dogs and there was a policeman putting the barriers up.

“My son was going to work and saw a woman talking to a police officer and also an ambulance actually in the cordon itself.

“It’s not the first time something like this has happened - I’ve lived here for 32 years.”
