Five more walk-in sites for county
STAPLEFORD and Carlton will soon be getting their own Covid testing facilities for people without symptoms as up to five new sites are set up in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
The asymptomatic testing sites, for those who do not have any symptoms but fear they may have Covid-19, are being established as the rate of infection failed to decrease as fast as had been hoped.
Anyone can simply turn up to one of the sites to use a lateral flow test, which provides a result within 30 minutes.
And the uptake has been increasing.
Those with symptoms of coronavirus are advised to book in
for a test online. They must not visit a community testing site.
Jonathan Gribbin, director of public health for the county, confirmed two new sites in the county during a public health briefing yesterday.
“In Nottinghamshire county, we will be launching two more community testing sites next week in Carlton and Stapleford,” he said.
“Together with the two we launched this week in Newark and Ashfield, and with those that were implemented earlier in the month, that will bring the total in the county to eight.
“We have just over 7,000 people in Nottinghamshire county now who have undertaken lateral flow tests and I also want to extend my thanks to them. Many have identified they are doing that, perhaps prompted by an employer, but many of them are wanting to do it because they know it’s the right thing to do to keep themselves, their household and their community safe.
“If you cannot work from home please make habitual use of these community testing sites.”
The locations of the sites in the city are yet to be confirmed, but there are existing community testing facilities such as the Djanogly Leisure Centre off Gregory Boulevard.
Alison Challenger, public health chief for Nottingham city, added: “This can be a regular arrangement and you can be tested every week.”
