More than 140 county deaths in a week – but ‘excellent progress’ on jabs, says NHS

-

MORE than 140 people died from Covid-19 in one week across Nottinghamshire, latest weekly data has shown.

Figures supplied through the Government’s coronavirus dashboard show 145 Covid-19 related deaths were registered across the county in the week ending February 5 – the most recently available data.

There were 30 Covid deaths recorded in Nottingham for the seven days up to February 5 and 115 across the wider county.

The data comes as an interactive map from the Office for National Statistics shows the hotspots for overall deaths related to Covid-19.

The figures are accurate for March to December 2020. Data for January and February 2021 is yet to be added.

Beechdale has recorded the highest total in the city, with 35 overall deaths. There were also 26 deaths in Clifton North during the same period, while Gedling South, Woodthorpe & Arno Vale, and Kimberley South, Trowell & Awsworth all recorded 25 deaths.

NHS bosses in Nottingham have said there are now 75 percent more people in our hospitals than at the peak of the first wave in April. In the week from 11-17 February there were 64 deaths in Nottinghamshire’s hospitals, the health service confirmed.

Dr Andy Haynes, executive lead, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, said: ”Latest figures show we are making excellent progress with our vaccination programme: 227,184 vaccines have been administered with 48,164 in the last week alone.

“Each day we are delivering a significant number of vaccines to the most vulnerable in our communities and the work of our staff and volunteers to accomplish this has been outstanding.

“Our hospitals are seeing a reduction in cases but the pressure is still there. I would urge everyone to continue to follow the guidance to keep the number of cases down.

“We would all like to come out of the other side of this lockdown with a vaccination programme well under way and asymptomatic testing in place so we can emerge into a world where another national lockdown doesn’t seem likely.”
