Two more rapid testing sites to open in the city
YOU DON’T NEED TO BOOK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS TO ATTEND
NOTTINGHAM City Council has announced that two more asymptomatic Covid-19 testing centres are to open in Clifton and The Meadows.
A testing centre at Djanogly Community Leisure Centre on Gregory Boulevard, near the two new sites, has carried out more than 5,500 tests since opening in January.
The Portland Centre, on Muskham Street in The Meadows, will open on Tuesday, March 2, while the Clifton Community Centre, on Southchurch Drive in Clifton, will open on Thursday, March 4.
They join the list of sites already in operation in Carlton, Newark, Stapleford and Mansfield.
Councillor Sally Longford, deputy leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “After the success of our testing centre at Djanogly Community Leisure Centre, we are pleased to now be able to offer a local facility for residents and workers in the south of the city.
“We know citizens living around the sites are of working age and more at risk of catching Covid-19, so it is important everyone protects themselves and those around them, whether family, colleagues or people in support bubbles. There are also good transport links to both sites to encourage residents from neighbouring areas to get tested.”
The new testing centres will work alongside other sites located across the county which focus on testing those who are displaying Covid-19 symptoms. The opening of the two new centres brings the total number of asymptomatic testing centres in Nottingham to 10. Booking is not required and samples do not need to be sent to laboratories for testing, meaning results can be given in around 40 minutes.
Councillor Longford added: “People will not need to display any symptoms to access this test and the results of positive or negative for Covid-19 can be given in under an hour. The offer will be for each person to access a test at least once a week.
“We are also looking to extend the offer to other areas in the north of the city soon.”
