19 cases of Covid-19 are confirmed in outbreak at Notts home
AN outbreak of Covid-19 has been confirmed at a Nottinghamshire care home.
The county’s director of Public Health, Jonathan Gribbin, said St Saviours Care Home in Retford had 19 cases confirmed in a week.
Bassetlaw has a rate of 127.7 cases per 100,000 people with 150 cases confirmed in the seven days to March 10.
During a county council Covid-19 resilience, recovery and renewal committee meeting yesterday, Mr Gribbin said: “We have seen an increase in all ages in Bassetlaw, but particularly in the over-60s, where we have been working in St Saviours Care home on an outbreak we have seen there.
“Most residents and staff have been asymptomatic and I can also confirm that all but one of the residents were vaccinated on January 11. I think I am right in saying the one resident subsequently chose to take up the offer of vaccination.
“Most people in that care home are not experiencing the level of sickness and hospitalisation which we would’ve seen were this happening three or four months ago.”
He added: “We see some clustering in residential addresses which indicates some household transmission.
“We’re also taking a look at occupational exposures which are higher than the regional average. We have a demographic where more people than average across the Midlands are needing to go out to work.”
St Saviours Care Home did not wish to comment.
In an official statement, Mr Gribbin added: “We are supporting St Saviour’s Care Home in Retford to respond to an outbreak.
“The home have been proactive and are working with our Public Health team and local health partners to manage and control the infection.”
