‘Our tiny village will be spoiled by homes plan’

RESIDENTS’ FEARS OVER BID FOR 115 PROPERTIES

VILLAGERS fear plans to build 115 homes will “spoil” the area.

The bid to build the development land to the east of Church Lane, Brinsley, has been submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council by Terry and Ann Anthony on behalf of Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

It is recommended for approval when it goes before the planning committee today.

But residents are concerned about its impact on traffic and on the “tiny” village generally.

Trevor Wardle, who has lived in the village for 16 years, said: “We have voted against it but it looks like they’re going to go ahead anyway.

“They’re always going to build homes but you can guarantee at least one car per house which will cause traffic.

“The car park for the recreation ground is already busy. There will be no greenbelt left eventually. It is a shame.

“You just don’t know what it’s going to bring in. We like the village as it is really and we would like it to stay as it is, if possible.”

Vaughan Widdowson, who has lived there with his wife Susan for three years, said: “Nobody is going to stand up and say they’re happy about it but houses have got to be built somewhere.

“From here it won’t visually impair us very much. It’s only taking over a field.

“Wherever they put them people will object but I think it could have been a lot worse.”

But Susan said: “It’s unbelievable how much traffic is coming past now.

“It’s such a beautiful spot in the park and we go down there quite often. The houses will encroach on our park.

“It’s going to spoil it – it’s the wrong place for homes. We’re a tiny village and we don’t have the industry for it.

“It’s a dangerous junction where they’ll be coming out on to the road. We’ll need a speed camera to stop people going too fast.”

A mix of homes including linked, semi-detached and detached styles, ranging from one to four-bedrooms, is planned. Thirty percent will be “affordable”.

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I just wonder if we have the facilities for it, that is my main concern.

“We’ve only got one school and our nearest surgery is in Eastwood.”
